Lamborghini doesn't build its cars to perform at drag strips, but cars like the Gallardo and the Huracán have become commonplace at quarter-mile and runway events thanks to their stout powertrains and high-speed stability. What we haven't seen is an older Lamborghini take to drag racing... until this Jalpa.

The Jalpa is a mid-engine Lamborghini from the Eighties produced in relatively small numbers, equipped with a 255-hp 3.5-liter V-8 and a five-speed manual transmission. This one's been totally transformed for drag duty, now sporting a twin-turbo Chevy LS V-8. It gets power to the ground via a highly modified Camry transmission with internals from a General Motors Turbo 400 gearbox.

In its best run, the Jalpa was able to lay down a 8.992-second quarter-mile time at 157 mph. Certainly not 2000-hp Huracán speeds, but still impressive for a car nearly 40 years old.
